Outerworn: Feel Good, Share The Love, Support a Circular Future
Every piece of clothing you own has an environmental impact; the materials used to create it, how it's manufactured, and where it ends up all play a pivotal role in the planet's health. Unfortunately, the fashion industry has become "the world's second-largest polluter, just after the oil industry. And the environmental damage is increasing as the industry grows," according to the Sustain Your Style organization. In 2018 alone, it's estimated that 13 million tons of waste were generated from the clothing and footwear industries, with textiles, rubber, leather and some plastics as the significant material contributors to that waste (United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)). But Outerknown is here to change this trajectory. We're shifting an entire industry by executing only the best, most sustainable practices and creating socially responsible clothing that contributes to a world where people and planet come first.
Other companies may offer clothing repair programs, but we go a step further asking our community to participate directly through buying and reselling their pre-loved Outerknown clothing. Working directly with our customers to keep our clothing out of landfills and in circulation forever through our new online resale platform, Outerworn.
“On our path toward full circularity, launching a resale program has always been a huge goal for us. And thanks to our recent partnership with a technology platform called Recurate, we're finally making it happen.” — Outerknown CEO Mark Walker
By making a conscious effort to buy better quality, pre-worn pieces, we can all can significantly reduce waste and help eliminate excessive consumption. After all, the most sustainable clothes are the ones that already exist! We can't wait for you to check it out, and to let us know what you think. We see resale as an essential part of our business going forward, and we're excited for this extension to Outerknown.com to take root and blossom.
Feel good, share the love, and support a circular future.
